Historical · ~35 km

Miletus was one of ancient Ionia's most important port cities and is regarded as a birthplace of Western philosophy. Thinkers such as Thales, Anaximander and Anaximenes came from here. The fact that it now lies inland, in the middle of a plain, is the result of silt carried by the Meander over the centuries.
The most impressive surviving structure is the vast ancient theatre, seating tens of thousands. Alongside it, the agora, baths and ruins from various periods spread across a wide area.
As it spreads over a large area, comfortable shoes and a hat are recommended. It is most pleasant to explore in the cool of the morning or late afternoon. It is about 35 km from our villas.
